Bessie's House
Bessie's House
611 Brighton Ave., Kansas City, MO 64124
In partnership with Atonement Lutheran Church, remodeled an early 20th century home next door to one of our other ministry partners, Children’s Memorial. Many members of Atonement have been fully involved with ministry projects, construction projects, as well as helping to develop a corporate identity as a Missouri non-profit corporation. Currently three members of Atonement sit on the board of directors of Servant Inc., which operates as Bessie’s House. Bessie’s House holds weekly Bible Studies, Alpha, and AA groups while also welcoming an increasing number of homeless and area impoverished into its warmth to receive assistance with clothing, laundry, food, transportation, showers, legal, tax, and referral for substance abuse. Bessie’s House conducts a Saturday night street ministry on Independence Ave. between from 7PM to midnight, reaching out to street people and sex trade workers. English and Spanish Bibles are handed out while offering pastries, hot coffee/cocoa, hats, gloves and fellowship. Many volunteer opportunities continue as we respond to God's call.
