Community Blood Center (CBC) Bloodmobile
Blood Drive April 22, 2013
Charter Hall - 2 to 7 pm
Most of us will need a blood transfusion at some point in our lives. That means that you, your family and your peers will need the support of volunteer blood donors.
Approximately 60% of collections come from Blood Drives chaired by volunteers at schools, churches, organizations, and businesses. More than 1,500 chairpersons of teams like Atonement’s Parish Nurses helped organize these drives last year.
Last year members at Atonement donated almost 140 units of blood. This year we’ve set a goal to increase the number of units donated by at least 10% (bringing our total collection to 154 units). With your help, we can easily achieve this goal! Atonement has a history of collecting almost 300 units of blood in 2011 and 2010 – and we believe we can do it again!
Consider these Community Blood Center Facts:
Community Blood Center needs 580 donors each day to meet area hospitals' needs.
Community Blood Center sends out almost 3,600 units of blood components each week to treat patients in over 70 area hospitals.
By just making one donation, you can help as many as two patients. Your blood can be divided into blood components - plasma and red cells.
The Community Blood Center relies solely on volunteer blood donors to meet the community’s blood needs.
Blood products have a limited shelf life.
Red blood cells only last 42 days
Platelets only last 5 days
Plasma may be frozen and stored for 1 year.
Other Ways You Can Help
Write a note for The Branch about why you donate blood.
Recruit others to give blood or bring a friend along next time you donate.
Donate blood more often. If you have been giving only once a year, try to give every other month or six times a year.
Invite your relatives to join you in donating blood as a family activity over the holidays.
Sign-up begins Palm Sunday, March 24. Look for the sign-up table in the Narthex after service.
Plan to donate as many times as you’re able.
