YOU Are Welcome Here!

Atonement Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation. This means we joyfully welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions, races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and family structures into the full life and leadership of our church.
We commit to actively removing barriers to belonging and embracing LGBTQIA+ people and their families with love, dignity, and respect. It also means we work for racial justice, accessibility, and reconciliation in Christ’s name.
We are glad YOU are here. You are a beloved child of God, and there is room for you at this table.

Our Welcome Statement
Atonement Lutheran Church believes that all people are created by God and share the same need for forgiveness, hope and healing. Even on issues where it is difficult to reach a consensus, Atonement desires to reflect the love of Jesus with a welcoming spirit. Moving beyond the common distinctions of race, national origin, age, physical and mental ability, political perspective, personal history, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, economic or social situation, we seek to invite and welcome all people to experience God’s love and grace.
Atonement strives to proclaim the Good News through worship and daily life, and to make disciples of all by nurturing faith. All people in a life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ are encouraged to let God’s Spirit deepen their relationship. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to grow spiritually through worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship and service as we participate fully in the life of this congregation.
Atonement endeavors to serve God through the discovery and use of spiritual gifts and to share God’s mercy and hope to a world in need, working for racial equity, justice, and peace. Our intention is to be ambassadors of Christ’s love in the world. The life-giving work of Christ is accomplished as we discover and use the gifts that God has given us in our daily life and work.

What Does Being “Reconciling in Christ” Mean?
Reconciling in Christ is a ministry of ReconcilingWorks that encourages Lutheran communities to proclaim our welcome for LGBTQIA+ people and to work for racial equity and justice. By becoming RIC, Atonement has made a clear commitment to equality and justice.
This identity reflects our faith. We believe Jesus calls the church to break down walls, widen the table, and embody the radical hospitality of God’s love in our community and in the world.

Why This Matters
For many LGBTQIA+ people and their families, church has not always been a place of welcome. Some have been excluded in direct ways. Others have been received with kindness but without full acceptance. These experiences create real hurt, and many who long for a spiritual home carry that history with them when they enter a new congregation.
At Atonement, we believe that the church should be a place of healing, safety, and hope. Becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation is one way we say openly and clearly that every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be welcomed without hesitation or condition. Here, no one needs to question whether their identity, their family, or their relationships will be honored. Our welcome is not simply spoken but lived in our daily life together.
This commitment also expresses our desire to grow as a community shaped by justice, compassion, and the inclusive love of Christ. It encourages us to listen deeply, to learn continually, and to build a church where all people can participate fully. Our identity as an RIC congregation reminds us that every person brings gifts that strengthen the body of Christ, and that we are called to create a space where those gifts can flourish.
We embrace this commitment because it reflects who God calls us to be. We want every person to know that their presence matters, their story matters, and their full self is welcome in this place.
